976. Robert Southey to Charles Watkin Williams Wynn, 18 August 1804*
Dear Wynn
We have had so much rain that fine weather may almost be calculated upon. – Cross the sands from Lancaster, if the weather be fair, & be sure you do not attempt it in misty weather or without a guide. see Furness Abbey & come by Conistone Lake to Ambleside. from thence make for the Royal Oak at Keswick, there put up your gig, & make somebody bring up the seat here & show you the way – it is not a five minutes walk.
The letter <delay> of the letter was my fault.1 it was left in my desk instead of on it.
The 15th sheet of Madoc2 this evening. I have now fairly got thro my difficulty & am travelling over the old beaten road.
